January Meeting: Multi-Platform Storytelling

At our next AoCiM meeting we will be looking at some new trends in releasing a variety of projects utilizing multiple forms of media all based on a single creative concept. For example, you have an episodic show as the backbone of the concept, yet in conjunction with this you release an online graphic novel following a secondary plot related to the film. The list of related media could include games, podcasts, or anything else that immerses the viewer in the creative world/concept. The trendy phrase for this is "transmedia," which does not sound entirely exciting as it rolls off the tongue. Bring a friend and a trendy phrase of your own. Hope to see you there.

March Meeting: DSLR Filmmaking

DSLR

There has been a lot of chatter lately regarding the use of digital stills cameras, with HD recording capabilities, in filmmaking. At our next AoCiM meeting we will be exploring this whole phenomenon and what it means for the independent filmmaker. We will be hearing from ASC Cinematographer Shane Hurlbut about why he is embracing this technology in his storytelling. Shane has served as Director of Photography on mainstream Hollywood films like Terminator 4. It is certainly an interesting time to be a cinematographer with the new tools that are coming out. Hope to see you there.

May Meeting: Sharing Your Creative Vision

Sharing

Ready to get rolling on a film project? Over the past several years we have covered numerous topics on the creative process of filmmaking. A question has always come up, “Where do we go from here?” Many of us have projects near and dear to our hearts which we earnestly desire to see come to fruition. Others of us are looking to plug in our talents, skills, and resources on a Christ honoring project. We decided it would be a great opportunity to have us all come together to share that calling God has placed on our hearts; that unique vision He has given you as a filmmaker.

In sharing I feel that we could come together in unity of purpose. We can find ways of supporting and encouraging one another on our projects. Filmmaking is a team effort. So let’s develop teams to help each other move to the next level. I want to change the question of “Where do we go from here?” to “What can we do help make your vision a reality?”

So to keep it simple, here is what we are going to do. Come prepared to share one or more of the following:

  • God’s call on your life as a filmmaker and the vision he has given you to reach out through this medium

  • Pitch a project/concept you are developing

  • Showcase your demo reel or share your skill set and how you would like to plug into a project (Bring demo reel on DVD, CD or Flash Drive)

  • Or simply show up and listen to how God is moving in the lives of fellow Christian filmmakers

After we share, we will focus on some positve action steps to move forward as filmmakers. I am really excited to see what God is up to. I’m reminded of a favorite verse of mine from Habakkuk 1:5 “Look at the nations and watch – and be utterly amazed. For I am going to do something in your days that you would not believe, even if you were told.”
